D-Day Tour Canadian Sector

Our Canadian Sector tour concentrates on the importance of the (sometimes overlooked) Canadians’ role during the Battle for Normandy.

We shall look at the Canadian Parachute Battalion’s role as part of the 6th Airborne Division in preventing German counter attacks from the East across the River Dives towards Pegasus Bridge at Benouville. We shall then move to JUNO Beach and explore Mike and Nan Sectors of the beach where the Canadians staked out their own bridgehead and then fiercely attacked southwards, driving inland to take the high ground west of Caen. We shall follow their relentless drive inland and explain the crucial battles with 12th SS Hitler Jugend Division.

Canadian Advance D Day. Basly Memorial

The church at Basly with its memorial to the Canadian advance on D-Day.

We shall of course visit the Canadian Cemetery at Beny sur Mer to pay our respects to the 2,048 soldiers buried there. We also stop at Ardennes Abbey where 20  Canadian soldiers were murdered by the SS.
